Classics

Classics is the study of the unmatched achievements of ancient Greeks and Romans in literature, politics, language, philosophy, art, law, religion, sports, and technology, achievements by which they laid the basis for much of Western civilization today. Thanks to a strong and diverse faculty, students have the opportunity to learn about the realities of life in a culturally complex world in which not everyone was a king and every activity was not the sole province of men.

Students can obtain a:

  • BA in Classics with a concentration in Classical Civilization, Latin, Ancient Greek, or Ancient Greek and Latin
  • Minor in Ancient Greek, Latin, Ancient Greek and Latin, Classical Civilizations, and Modern Greek Studies
  • MA in Classics with concentrations in Ancient Studies, Ancient Greek and Latin, or Latin

In addition to the MA in Classics, we also offer:

Students majoring in other fields but wishing to study Greek, Latin, or Classics can choose from several Language and Civilization courses.
